Skip Sizes

When taking on a new project, you may wonder what size skip you need if you're not a professional tradesman or contractor. This is a very frequent concern so we put together a page that will help you when choosing which size skip.

Here are some common skip sizes available as well as details on what projects each would be suitable for to help you decide yourself.

Up to 4 Yards

The smallest skip size you can get, this is designed for minor DIY projects that will only produce a small amount of waste. If you're looking to do a couple of jobs around your home and don't want to make multiple trips to the tip, then this is the best way to get rid of excess rubbish.

Up to 6 Yards

When it comes to garden clearance or a small renovation, this skip size is perfect. You can also use this skip to dispose of hardcore waste such as bricks and rubble.

Up to 8 Yards

House clearances can generate a lot of rubbish, so a skip this size can handle it. Professional tradesmen often use these for their building projects.

Up to 10 Yards

This skip size is mostly used by builders. They can fit a large amount of waste so will be able to be used for large-scale clearances that produce a lot of rubbish. If you think your DIY job will result in a fair amount of waste then opt for this size.

Up to 12 Yards

For large-scale renovations, you may be better getting a few smaller size skips like these. Because so many heavy items and thrown away during these projects, a bigger skip could be too heavy to remove after you've filled it. Therefore, a couple of smaller size skips may work best.

Up to 14 Yards

This size skip is perfect for big clearances in your house, shop or workplace. If you're planning to get rid of a lot of rubbish in one go, you should look into getting a 12 to 14-yard skip. This size can also deal with wide or long goods.

Up to 16 Yards

If your home and garden are quite large, then this sized skip will be able to help get rid of waste from DIY or renovation projects. A great choice for commercial removals as well.

Up to 18 Yards

The biggest sized skip you can get and perfect for if you are renovating an entire house or have multiple large DIY jobs (just make sure you don't put all the heavy building waste into it).
